President - Michael Hall
Michael Hall is the Director of the Bay Area Regional Environmental Business Resource and Assistance Centers at Mission College. The Bay Area Regional Environmental Business Resources & Assistance Center's objectives are to assist business, industry, manufacturing, governmental agencies and professional associations to operate in conformance with Local, State, and Federal Environmental and workplace Safety laws and regulations. Michael holds numerous educational and professional credentials and serves on various professional association’s boards and committees.
Vice-President - Michael Kumpf
Attended Cal State University, Chico; B.A. Physical Geography 1992.
After part-time work in Environmental planning, Mike spent 5 years working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the TSDF on their waste sampling team. He left LLNL for work in the Chemistry and Materials Science Directorate at Site 300 at the large scale explosives formulations lab and pilot plant chemical synthesis lab where he developed new technologies for conventional explosive applications. Mike is currently employed at the U.C. Berkeley Campus years where he is the Director of the College of Chemistry’s Environment, Health, Safety & Security program. He and his staff provide EHS&S support for over 1300 Faculty and research staff and over 3000 undergraduate students located throughout 7 buildings on the U.C. Berkeley Campus.
Secretary - Nancy Rothermich
Nancy holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Health Physics from San Diego State University. She has over 25 years of experience in the waste management area and is currently the Group Leader for the Waste Management organization at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In this capacity, Nancy manages a staff of ~20 people who assure that hazardous, radioactive, mixed, biohazardous, universal, and medical waste is managed safely, in compliance with all permits, laws, and regulations, and as efficiently as possible. In previous positions, Nancy has managed technology development projects and provided project management and technical support to the Department of Energy (DOE) Headquarters (HQ) Office of Environmental Restoration and Waste Management. She became a CHMM in December 2004 and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Waste Management Inc.
Treasurer - Georgina Dannatt
Georgina has over 20 years' experience in due diligence and environmental site assessment issues. She is currently the Environmental Risk Manager and a Vice President at Bank of the West in Walnut Creek, California. Since 1994, she has managed environmental risks on behalf of lending institutions and as an independent consultant doing out-sourced environmental reviews for lending institutions. She develops policy and implements an environmental risk management program covering loan origination, foreclosure, and facility issues. She has extensive experience in the performance of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and review of remedial investigations to determine adequacy. Other affiliations have included Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, McLaren Environmental Engineering, and Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, providing significant experience in regulatory compliance, site characterization, and laboratory analysis. Ms. Dannatt has been a CHMM since 1986, holding offices in the Northern California Chapter since its inception in 1987, and has been a frequent instructor for the NCC-AHMP Essentials course. She was Chapter President in 1999, and has been Treasurer since 2000. She is also an active member of the Environmental Bankers Association.
Sacramento Section Chair - Carol Hall
Carol has been an environmental compliance specialist for more than 20 years. She works for Kleinfelder, an employee-owned science and engineering consulting firm providing solutions to meet complex infrastructure and natural resource challenges. Carol has been the Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) manager for a large levee improvement project in the Sacramento area for the past 2 years. Carol provides oversight of Initial Site Surveys, Phase I due diligence reporting and Phase II ESAs, Hazardous Building Materials Surveys, Construction Abatement, Ecological Risk Assessments, and other technical evaluations and reporting for the project. In addition, she has provided regulatory and environmental services for a wide variety of clients including chemical distribution and manufacturing facilities, mining operations, utilities, commercial businesses, infrastructure developers, and lending institutions.
Carol enjoys all things Disney. She completed the Disneyworld Half-Marathon in April and hopes to finish the Disneyland Half-Marathon in September to earn the coveted Cross Country Princess Medal. She also completed a marathon in London, England as a member of Team Diabetes, and raised $25,000 for the American Diabetes Association with a group of co-workers and friends.
She looks forward to working with the Northern California Chapter and local industry to offer professional development and networking opportunities through informative and engaging events.
Regulatory Liaison - Richard Michalik
Richard has B.S in Chemical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley. He has over 22 years of experience in the environmental field including previous positions managing mobile and fixed permitted Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities, and operation of oil waste recycling facility. Richard currently works at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Environmental Protection Department. He provides support and oversight on a variety of environmental topics (e.g., hazardous waste, air, PCBs, storm water) to various research and development programs and the on-site permitted hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility. Richard is also a member of the LLNL Emergency Response Organization and provides support to the LLNL EOC and Incident Commanders regarding environmental issues associated with incidents.
Awards Chair - Robin Spencer
Serving on the Board since the Chapter’s founding in the early 1990s, she was president in 2000, 2002, and 2008. She has held other offices such as vice president, secretary, programs chair, awards chair, and for four years coordinated the twice-yearly Overview Course. She has been on the national ACHMM Nominations Committee for four years and now is the Government Affairs Chair for the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals. She is a three-time honoree as an ACHMM Champion of Excellence (2002, 2003, 2009) and the first recipient of the Society of Women Engineers Region A Service Award (2003).
This year, Robin celebrates her 16th year as an independent consultant for environmental regulatory compliance and safety compliance. Notable clients are TIMET, Sims Metal Management, Schnitzer Steel, Circosta Iron and Metal, Alco Iron and Metal, Lakeside Non-ferrous Metals, Pro SE Services, and The Tinyard. In her spare time, she manages a petite souvenir business in Toulouse, France, and her family of one teenage boy, husband, and dog.
Prior to establishing her consulting business, Robin worked at Woodward-Clyde Consultants (now URS) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. With a BA from UC Berkeley and a Certificate in Hazardous Materials Management from UC Davis, Robin became a Master’s Level CHMM in 1989.
